I am a freelance trainer with a background of over 14 years working with substance misuse issues, and have been very interested in watching the TV programme, with my partner, who is a professional gardener. I also have an allotment myself, so recognise the therapeutic value of gardening! It has struck me that I may be able to help in some way, although not sure whether there are any projects in my area (Sussex). I have worked a lot training volunteers in befriending, supporting and mentoring people in recovery from substance misuse problems and helping them back to work, training and education. It seems that those people who have been helped by the project themselves could be trained as mentors to support new people on the project, and in turn could learn a valuable role and new skills as mentors which they could use in other ways, thereby increasing their own skills ; mentoring being something which can be used in all walks of life and in all kinds of professions.
I have some experience of working with drug users, have a passion for allotment gardening and would be interested in some involvement with the project. I live locally Worcestershire and be happy to offer some time.
Hi Veronica Just checked out Monty's site, and came across your offer to look at supporting a mentoring scheme. I work for a supported housing service in Brighton, and we are about to look at developing a rural rehab project (in Sussex) on land and buildings we already have. I would be really interested in exploring this with you, as we very much want to continue working with rough sleepers/substance misusers and so have them in mind in looking at what is possible. Up for a meeting or discussion exchange via email? Best wishes Tee
Hello, I'm a police community support officer from Brighton and hove and i regularly meet people who would benefit from an opportunity such as this. I would like to help wherever i can and if something was going to happen in Sussex then would be really keen on being a part of it. I know that the last posts were put on here some time ago but I still think that this is a magnificent idea that could work up and down the country. I have a good contacts network through work that hopefully would be of some use. Look forward to hearing from anyone on this messageboard! All the best Christian
